My Exit Strategy

1. Like most app start up companies, my main exit strategy would be to hopefully be purchased by a big software developer such as Apple. The main plan would be for the app to grow and grow in popularity, and once it gains a big enough following, the major players in the software development game will want to have some part in it. I have some experience understanding this kind of strategy because my oldest brother worked for a start up app business and they were successful and eventually bought by Apple. With his company's buyout, the employees were also bought out and employed by Apple, so that could also be a possible exit strategy.

2. I selected this particular exit strategy because I think it is most reasonable, and I have seen it happen before firsthand. I think this is a fairly common exit strategy in the software development business.

3. I don't think this particular exit strategy really changes how I have thought about the business too much. The only major effect it could have is I might be more willing to not make as much money off the product in the earlier stages because I can rely on a big supply of capital when the company gets bought out at the end. That could be a pretty risky strategy though so I am not sure if it is necessarily to best idea. The main goal with this type of exit strategy is just to grow as much as possible and reach the maximum number of people so bigger companies are more likely to buy your business out and pay more.

  1. Hey Jared,
I think that is a very smart exit strategy. It is wise to try to build it in popularity so that a big company can buy it for a large amount. This is more likely to make you more money than with staying with the app. It's good that you have had an inside look with how things work since your brother went through it. I think you have really though this through and seem to have options as far as strategy. Great job.

  2. Hi Jared,

This is very similar to my exit strategy as well! I am also making an app and I wished to be bought out by a bigger company. I agree that it is the more reasonable exit strategy for this type of venture. This is especially true for me due to the fact that I recognize I wouldn't be able to grow this past a local level. I know that my app would be able to be used in all cities but I lack the expertise and capital to make this a reality. I agree that this exit strategy doesn't change how you think about the business. You still need to make it the best you can or else companies will not be willing to buy it.

  3. Hi Jared!
I have really enjoyed following the plans for your app throughout the course and love seeing it go full circle with your exit strategy. I also believe your exit strategy is a good one! My strategy, though not for an app, is also really similar in terms of really dragging out all of the profit possible before deciding to get a big buyer. The advice that I have is to act like you don't even plan to sell it! Make it the best possible, which I am sure you will, and that will hopefully attract buyers. Good luck!
